Local football players earn Football Foundation awards; Cahoon also honored (Daily Herald)

April 20, 2011: Three All-Valley Elite 11 gridiron standouts and one future Cougar were among the 12 seniors honored as Scholar-Leader-Athlete award winners by the Utah Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Tuesday night at UVU.

Each of the 12 winners received a $1,000 scholarship and a ring and certificate to go with it. They were chosen from about 6,000 football players statewide. Read more.

April 19, 2011: One morning senior quarterback Christian Covey and his teammates showed up for what they thought was just another session of lifting weights and watching game film.

Instead, he said, Timpview head coach Louis Wong told the players they'd be pulling weeds as a service project. Covey said the boys found the task difficult at first, but it also changed the nature of their relationship. Read more.

Utah Chapter honors 14 scholar-athlete scholarship recipients (Press Release)

May 17, 2010: OREM, UTAH - The Utah Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall-of-Fame honored 14 High School Seniors with $1,000 scholarships, and other items at its 16th annual banquet on April 27.  Each of the recipients were all-state players and several are moving on to play at the next level at schools like the Naval Academy, Stanford, and Brigham Young University. The average Grade-Point-Average amongst the group was 3.9 and a composite 26 on the ACT.

"We are honored to have such a group represent our great state and chapter," said Chapter President Kevin White. "These are the leaders of our future and they prove that academics, service and athletics truly do help measure the character of these young men."

Also honored were San Diego Charger safety (and former University of Utah standout) Eric Weddle who received the Distinguished American award.

Long-time Chapter Board Member Bill Anderson was honored for his Outstanding Service to Amateur Football.

Other award winners were outstanding service to High School Football were Dean Fowles, a long-time coach, and Richard Lohmeyer, a long-time official.
